Michelle has been doing yoga since 2001. In October of 2002 she obtained her Primary Teaching Certificate through A.F.A.A. Most of the yoga she practiced between 2002 and 2003 was done in her home with videos. In 2004 she became a Registered Yoga Teacher at the 200 hour level with the Yoga Alliance through a program in Corpus Christi. In February of 2004 she attended a personal Revolutionary Weekend with Baron Baptiste which was truly a life changing event! As her practice deepened it became harder to practice in a gym setting. There was such limited yoga in Corpus Christi in 2004 that she decided to open her own studio. It was the first yoga studio in South Texas dedicated completely to yoga. Hungry for more information, Michelle attended a Teacher Training Intensive given by Camille Thomasson which took place on 1/3/2005 to 2/26/2005 at the studio. It began the first day the studio opened! She attended the following workshops and/or trainings: Several workshops with Bekir Algan, Peggy Kelly, Joan White Level III Iyengar, Cathy Rogers Evans, Anne Nowell from The Astanga Yoga Centers of San Diego, Jo Zucovitch from San Diego Yoga Studios, Private Instruction by Camille Thomasson, Healthy Back Specialists Class 5/13/2005, Seane Corn 9/09/2005-9/11/2005 Beyond Vinyasa , 3 Realms of consciousness and attended a special Master’s Class, Turbo Kick Teaching Certificate 1/21/2006, PiYo Gold Teaching Certificate 1/22/2006, Fitour Pilates I Teaching Certificate 5/22/2006, 30 hour Immersion with Srivatsa Ramaswami (Srivatsa Ramaswami studied directly under Krishnamacharya for 30 years) in Vinyasa Krama Yoga on 09/19/2006, The Inner I.D.E.A. and I.D.E.A. workshop in Las Vegas, Nevada which is one week of full day workshps devoted to fitness, It was the first year for Inner I.D.E.A. Michelle studied with Sherri Baptiste, Stacy Mc Carthy, and Marla Ericksen who studies Chakra balancing extensively. She has attended several workshops on Ayurveda with Bekir Algan and the most recent one with Dr. Robert Svoboda on Ayurveda for Yoga Teachers.
Michelle completed an Ashtanga Yoga Teacher’s Training Intensive (40 hours) with David Swenson on 5/12/2007- 5/18/2007. She re-did a 200 hour level teacher’s training through Yoga Yoga in Austin, Texas, completed an Anusara Immersion with Christina Sell. Michelle has attended a weekend workshop with Carlos Pomeda in San Marcos on Yoga History and Philosophy in October of 2007. She attended a weekend with Gary Kraftsow in Austin, Texas November of 2007. The concepts of Viniyoga were explored during a three day workshop. Gary Kraftsow is the founder of The National Viniyoga Institute. Michelle completed a 300 hour Jivamukti Teacher’s Training Course in Rhinebeck, New York with Sharon Gannon and David Life on May 23rd, 2008. Michelle assisted Sharon Gannon and David Life at the Southwest Yoga Conference held in Austin, October 2008. She continues to study in the Jivamukti method. She completed a 200 hour Teacher Training Program with Shri Dharma Mittra in NYC in June of 2010. Michelle has also completed a Yogic Arts™ 100 hour Teacher Training with Duncan Wong on March 6, 2011 in Houston, Texas. Recently Michelle completed Baron Baptiste Level 1 training in October, 2011 in Austin, Texas. She completed her Level II Baptiste training in March of 2012 in Austin, Texas. Michelle began an Apprenticeship with Tamar Samir in 2012. The apprenticeship requires her to spend a minimum of 3 months in NYC at the Jivamukti Yoga Center. She completed one month of the program with intentions to continue at a later date. Michelle studies with Manorama, Director of Sanskrit Studies in NYC. She continues to study privately with Manorama on a bi-weekly basis. Manorama also comes to the Yoga Studio of Corpus Christi at least three times a year for open workshops.
Michelle facilitated Yoga Teacher Trainings in 2013 and 2014. Michelle has completed her certification as a Trauma Sensitive Yoga Teacher and Advanced Yoga Therapy Training with Genevieve Yellin, at Sundara Yoga Therapy in Austin, Texas.
