The Yoga Studio of Corpus Christi has been operating since January of 2005. It has been the premier teaching institution of South Texas. We have offered many teacher trainings throughout the years at the studio. We are excited to share our years of experience with new and experienced teachers. The training offers a look at many different lineages and techniques. We have formed an alliance with two of the most respected studios in South Texas. Join Michelle Acebo and Gretchen Weber for this unique opportunity to be mentored on your journey. The purpose of this Teacher Training course is to educate the Yoga Teacher in different areas that will awaken their inner knowledge and teach them to be able to tap into their own power and self confidence so that they may be of the greatest service to the community which they serve.
In order for a teacher to be skilled, they must have a foundational understanding of yoga philosophy, yoga history, understanding the science of asana practice (which includes but is not limited to asana alignment, biomechanics of the body, when and where modifications are needed, when to use verbal cues and when to use hands on adjustments, understanding the importance of breath, understanding the importance of sequencing, and working with injuries) understanding the importance of having a personal practice, understanding the importance of being a good and respectful student yourself. The aim is being authentic and always having the purest and highest intentions to embrace and empower all students. A great teacher meets the students where they are and encourages them from that point. The teachers who are trained in this program will learn to guide the student to recognize and walk their edge while respecting their boundaries. The teacher will be authentic. They will say what they mean and mean what they say. The only way that we can teach others is to get into alignment is by personally experiencing alignment. Alignment may be in the body form but it is also being aligned in the way we live. It is from personal knowledge that the teacher teaches. Teacher training is a transformational experience where you develop a deeper understanding of your body, mind and heart through yoga.
The teacher training fees do not include suggested books or outside classes. Teachers in training will receive 40% off class packages while enrolled in the training. We have several copies of the books suggested and will be happy to loan these to the students enrolled in the course. Each student is required to teach 10 karma hours at the Yoga Studio of Corpus Christi, to the general public, prior to graduation.
As co-teacher of the training, Gretchen Weber (co-founder of Crossroads Yoga) will share her rich lineage from the Iyengar Tradition. She has studied extensively in the Anusara Tradition as well as studying with Christina Sell since 2008. She shares her extensive study in Sanskrit Studies under Manorama D’Alvia. Gretchen and Michelle have studied under the guidance of Manorama for many years. Manorama is the founder of both the Sanskrit Studies Method™ and the Luminous Soul Method™.
As the facilitator of the training, Michelle Acebo (Founder and C.E.O. of the Yoga Studio of Corpus Christi and the School of Yoga) will be sharing her rich lineage from Jivamukti Yoga and various other styles from which she has had the privilege to study. The Jivamukti Yoga lineage is a physical, ethical, and spiritual practice. As a Jivamukti Yoga Teacher we operate through 5 tenants of yoga philosophy which include: Ahimsa (non-harming), Bhakti (devotion), Nada (music and/or sound), dhyana (meditation) and shastra (study of ancient scriptures). The teacher trainee will learn to teach from the heart with reverence to tradition. We alway honor our teachers and those who came before them. We honor those who have helped us on our path.
We will happily share the names and numbers of the numerous students which have been through this program. We believe that references are extremely important. You are encouraged to reach out to our past students as well as checking out our reviews on Yoga Alliance Website.
This is a unique opportunity to study with two of the largest studio owners in South Texas. We can offer a unique insight into creating a community of support, friendship, networking, and growth.
This is a one weekend per month training. It is 9 months long. We feel that it is important to introduce topics, allow the students to work with the new information and support their questions as they develop their teaching skills. Meeting once a month has been student’s favorite method to training so far!
